District 84 is one of more than 100 administrative districts that make up Toastmasters International. We serve members across central and northern Florida — roughly the I-4 corridor and everything north and east of it, from Daytona and Jacksonville west to Tallahassee, south to Orlando and the Space Coast.
By the numbers
- 130+ clubs meeting weekly across the district.
- 2,000+ members at any given time.
- 6 divisions, each made up of 3–5 areas of nearby clubs.
- 35 areas, each grouping 3–5 clubs that share an Area Director.
- Two semi-annual cycles for member dues (April and October).
What the District does
The District exists to help clubs help members grow. That breaks into a few core functions:
- Club support. Through coaches, sponsors, mentors, ambassadors, and the area/division structure, the district keeps clubs healthy and helps struggling ones recover.
- Education. The district runs Toastmasters Leadership Institute (TLI) twice a year, supports the Pathways program, and provides resources for members pursuing the Distinguished Toastmaster (DTM) award.
- Recognition. The district administers the Distinguished Club Program at the local level, runs annual incentives (Notable 9, Incredible 20, Seven of Seven, Super Star Points, Golden Gavel), and recognizes clubs and members at the annual District Conference.
- Competition. Speech contests run every fall and spring at the club, area, division, and district levels. Winners advance through to the international level.
- Outreach. The district supports Speechcraft, Youth Leadership, Gavel Clubs, Speakers Bureau, and the Toastmasters–Rotary Alliance — programs that put Toastmasters' communication training in front of people who aren't yet members.
How the District is run
District 84 is led by an elected District Director supported by two appointed trio officers — the Program Quality Director (education and program execution) and the Club Growth Director (new clubs and membership growth). Around the trio, division directors lead each of the six divisions; area directors lead each area; and a slate of appointed chairs and managers handle specific functions (finance, PR, education, contests, conference, technology).
See the Leadership page for the current officers and chairs, or the District Leadership Roles page for a deeper look at each role's responsibilities.
History
District 84 was chartered on July 1, 2008, when it split off from District 47. See Our District's History for the longer story.
